Microdosing is when an individual takes a very low dosage of Psilocybin “Magic” Mushrooms to receive both physical and mental benefits. Microdosing is taken at a dosage of 1/10th a normal dose to provide subtle but very effective results.

Mushrooms have been used for thousands of years as a natural remedy to fight off infections and other diseases. Cave drawings and old art also depict our earliest ancestors using mushrooms as a food resource which led them on spiritual journeys that expanded and developed their minds. Despite that, interest in microdosing saw a major revitalization with the publishing of Dr. James Fadiman’s The Psychedelic Explorer’s Guide: Safe, Therapeutic, and Sacred Journeysin 2011.

The book explores microdosing as a subculture of psychedelic use. While a number of indigenous cultures, as well as modern professionals, have used microdosing to unlock a host of benefits, Fadiman’s book formally introduced the term “microdosing” into the psychedelic mainstream.

But the book didn’t just contribute a piece of terminology; it awakened the curiosity and imaginations of millions of people. It also provided practical information for anyone who wanted to give it a try, much of which has been integrated into this guide.

Fadiman’s ongoing research serves as one of the few modern studies into the effects of microdosing specifically (most other research deals with larger doses for specific therapeutic outcomes).

Magic mushrooms are composed of psilocybin. Psilocybin has a similar molecular compound to serotonin. Serotonin is what your brain uses as energy to provide the body with happiness, growth and the ability to process information. Since psilocybin has a similar structure to serotonin, it can replicate the ability to provide the brain with happiness, energy and more by activating the serotonin receptors.  Psilocybin mushrooms provides the user with a more positive outlook on life while enhancing their cognitive functions.

Although there are few studies on microdosing psilocybin mushrooms, there are many individual recordings of extreme mental and physical benefits which came with microdosing. Some people report the ability to remain more focused while others have rewired their brains to fight addiction and other mental diseases. Psilocybin mushrooms provide the ability to overcome your fear while expanding your creative mind. With the ability to face and overcome what is in front of you, microdosing helps you to fight depression, anxiety, addiction and more.

At the risk of oversimplifying, people microdose for two reasons:

To reduce the frequency and intensity of undesirable states caused by various forms of mental illness including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Mood disorders
  • PTSD
  • Addiction

To increase the frequency and intensity of desirable states/outcomes:

  • Creativity
  • Energy
  • Flow states
  • Productivity/focus
  • Improved relationships/increased empathy
  • Athletic coordination
  • Leadership development
